ear infection in 7 year old - do I take her to the GP?

Am new to acute ear infections (don't know how I managed it with 3 children! ) and never had one myself so could do with some advice.

Dd1 woke up this morning with a bad earache that seems to be radiating across half her face. I've given her Calpol but she's still on a lot of pain (I think - she is a bit of a drama queen ) and can't eat even a yoghurt. She doesn't have a temp.

Do I just let this take its course? Or should I be taking her to see the GP? IIRC most ear infections are viral anyway, so there doesn't seem a right lot of point. But then she is in pain....

Not all are viral so I would take her as they become agony without antibiotics if infectious.I think the viral ones aren't as painful iirc

ok thanks, have made an appointment for later this morning. she freaked out at the thought of someone going near her ear so I guess it must hurt quite a lot...
