Do I need to get some ABs for an infected insect bite?

Think it may be infected. Feels sore and area around bite is all swollen Will it just go away or do I need ABs. Can I just get them from pharmacy or do I need to see a doc - can't really be bothered with the stress of phoning at 8.30 on the dot to get an emergency appointment tomorrow morning...

If it is infected it needs treating. And you'd need to see the GP, as you need a prescription.

If it's really bad and left untreated, you could end up with it being a real mess. I had cellulitis a couple of times from infected insect bites, and it's not pleasant.

Try some anti-histamines and see if they help with some of the swelling, but if it's no better overnight you'd better prepare yourself for being on the phone at 8.30!

Go and get it checked out. I had cellulitus last year from an insect bite. By the time I got to the hospital my ankle to my knee had swollen up. The Dr said that if I'd left it any longer it would have gone all the way up to hip!

Sympathies with having to phone at 8.30 for an appointment, our surgery is the same, the line is engaged until 9 and by then all appointments gone grrr

Just as I thought, had something similar years ago and I left it and it just got worse and worse till had to go to docs. Oh well [sigh]

Did you phone the Drs cece?
How's the bite?

No didn't bother, it looks a bit less swollen today. Although it is noticably bigger than the other one and it is still sore so maybe I should have! DH is away at moment so trying to put it off till he gets back...#

Knowing our luck at the moment though I 'll end up spending an afternoon at one of those walk in clinics this weekend with the kids in tow!

Thnaks for asking
