Using night nurse

I've currently got man flu Wink and had a really patchy night's sleep, when you wake up then can't get back to sleep again as everything hurts.

So I bought nightnurse first thing and took a dosage at 9.10am, seems good stuff, I got a few hours sleep and things hurt less.

You're supposed to take a dosage once in a 24 hour period, if I can't sleep tonight do you reckon it would be ok to take one at 2am?

I wouldn't take more than the recommended dose. It contains paracetamol. Also, I took it before bed once and was still so groggy the next day that I didn't feel safe to drive to work.

Take ibuprofen if too early to safely take more paracetamol. It is safe to combine the two.

Thank you.

Oh dear, I'll have to hold off til tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah it IS powerful stuff

Have you taken anything else containing paracetamol since the first dose?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/01/2018 21:40

I googled the dosage. Each 20 ml dose contains 1 gram of paracetamol and 20 mg of promethazine. The reason for 24 hours between doses is indicated in the name, the promethazine aids sleep.

The max BNF dose of promethazine in 24 hours is 100 mg so you could take more tonight if you haven't been dosing up on paracetamol during the day.

Max paracetamol dose is 4g in 24 hours.

I used to take night nurse in the morning after a night shift if I had a bad cold and had to work. Good stuff.....

SwedishEdith · 16/01/2018 21:40

It's only 500 mgs which is the same as two tablets. I suspect they say one dose because you take Day Nurse for the rest of the day?

Pidgythe2nd · 16/01/2018 21:41

If you took it 9am, as in this morning, it won't be the paracetamol, it will be the sedative with the restriction.

Personally, I'd take another dose since you'd be 17 hours since your last dose if I've understood correctly. Assuming you've not taken anything else with the active ingredients since then.
Paracetamol doses usually need 4 hours between them with a max number of doses per 24 hr period.

BulletFox · 16/01/2018 21:52

Ohh really?? It was the sedative aspect I wanted.

Thank you!

Try anti histamines if you can't sleep but obviously don't buy the non drowsy ones

CompletelyUnknown · 16/01/2018 22:12

It's definitely the best for the job but why does it need to be the most vile and disgusting tasting liquid on the face of the planet?!

BhajiAllTheWay · 17/01/2018 18:41

I love the taste of night nurse! Could drink it by the bottle ( obviously not but you get the idea)
