Meteformic acid and periods

I'm on the mini pill Cerazette. I started this two months ago and had a ten day period when I started it and now I'm bleeding heavily again five weeks later. I'm at a wedding on Saturday and keep flooding so I saw my gp who has prescribed meteformic acid to slow down the bleeding. She did say once I stop the medication the bleeding will restart.

Has anyone used this with success? How long did the medication take to work? Does it make the bleeding lighter but make the period longer or shorten both the amount of bleeding and number of days bleeding?

I’m 49. Still having regular periods. Flooding became an issue. Got prescribed MA. Works v effectively if you take it very regularly. Works quickly. If I forget to take a dose I start flooding. Doesn’t shorten days of period or number of days you bleed. Just stops flooding you will get clots instead, don’t be alarmed they’re manageable. If I didn’t take it I’d have to stay in the house for 5 days a month. Was reduced to wearing Tena Lady pants before & leaked through clothes, coats into car seats etc. It has really helped. If you started it on Thursday it would have your bleeding well under control for Sat. And yes stop taking it even one dose & you’ll notice it in how much blood you lose. No side effects that I’ve noticed.

Are you confusing mefenamic acid with Metformin?
