Recurrent Spasms/cramps in one hand

For a few months now I've had recurrent cramps in my left hand/wrist/thumb. Probably on average once a week id say but sometimes in clusters. It's hard to explain but suddenly the muscle will cramp/contract and my hand will get sort of 'stuck' like my wrist curling in or my thumb pressing into my hand, and I can only move it by 'helping' with my other hand. It lasts less than a minute I'd say or until I can uncurl it using my other hand.
it's always just on the left side.

Should I be concerned/see the dr?

Any idea what the cause could be?

Is it the hand you use for phone/iPad?

Marv1nGay3 · 10/01/2018 21:02

I think it could possibly be carpal tunnel? Might be worth seeing a physiotherapist?

Yes, me too.

I had similar when I started doing on line marketing for my business - the combination of much increased iPad use and using a different chair created massive cramping pain in my hand.
I changed where I worked and took regular breaks and I'm find now

Thanks, that's interesting. I'm right handed so it's not the hand I use for holding phone etc. I can't think of any activity I've started doing recently using my left hand. I'll look up carpal tunnel. So do you think it's worth seeing the GP about? (When the flu crisis is over obviously!)

I had this. One hand kept tingling, going numb. It wasn’t carpal tunnel but something trapped in my neck. Physio sorted it.

I did have a trapped nerve in my neck (herniated disc) nearly 2 years ago - it was horrendous and took 8 weeks or so to start getting better.

My left hand was affected, particularly the middle finger and even now I still have slight numbness there.

My neck is fine now although it flares up a bit and gets a bit stiff/sore every so often eg. If I sleep on the wrong pillow or something

I wonder if that's connected because it is the same side.
