I was wondering if anyone has had any side-effects from taking 5-HTP?

(I know it should not be taken by anyone who is pregnant or breast feeding.)

I've taken 200-400mg daily for the last year or so, and not noticed any side effects.
It definitely helps me with perimenopausal insomnia.
Are you taking it? What experiences have you had, OP?

Thank you Launderette. No, I haven't tried it yet but was thinking of taking it. I saw someone else on MN recommend it recently for anxiety and wondered about it. I think I'll try some too.

I haven't, but I heard that such side-effects of 5-HTP taking include heart burns, gastric discomfort, potential sexual difficulties, dizziness and feeling drowsy. But while keeping to the right dosage the risks are minimal.

Thanks lauradiana, I read about those too on webmd or somewhere so that is partly why I asked.
