Painful corn on outside of little toe

Hi all, this started around a week ago so I bought some of those corn treatment plasters with a red padded circle with some kind of chemical in (I've used these before with success when I had a corn in the same place) this time though, when I came to remove one to replace it, the corn is HUGE and has gone white and the whole toe is bright red and swollen. Luckily I managed to get in to see a gp as they suspected it may be infected when I called for advice. Anyway, I was prescribed anti biotics and told to just leave it alone and that my body has somehow started fighting whatever's in the plaster iyswim. I can't see how it's going to go away though-does anyone have any experience? Sorry for long post and trivial matter but it's blooming Painful!!

The damage has been done by the plaster, but once you removed it you took away the cause of the damage, so if it is infected the antibiotics will deal with that, and otherwise your body will heal just as it does from any wound. The white is just macerated tissue from where you damaged the skin with the corn plaster. Those things are terrible by the way, the chemicals involved will do a good job if they are correctly applied, but in a plaster it is likely it’ll end up damaging healthy skin, which has happened to you.

If you can afford to see a podiatrist, they will put it right. I get a similar, recurring, corn and it's amazing how painful it is. When I used one of those plasters it made a mess of my foot just like yours and the podiatrist I visited said she wished they were banned from sale as she spends so much of her time fixing the problems they cause. And they almost never cure the corn anyway.

Thank for the replies-it guess it WAS the plaster then...they really shouldn't be on sale! Will take antibiotics, wear my emu boots (!) And hopefully it'll improve. Thanks again
