Yes, it works. You need to use it really quickly as soon as you realise one is coming, and it can stop it. If you leave it later the cold sore will break out, although it tends not to be as bad as it would have been otherwise.

yes. it's the only thing that works for me!

mumto3girls · 25/04/2007 13:58

personally i hated this stuff..it just seemed to feed my cold sore and make it bigger!!

Now i use nothing (haven't had done for a couple of years).

Is that the stuff in Zovirax? We stopped using it - didn't really work for me and made DH's lips swell and excema flare. We now use Fenistil (active ingredient is Penciclovir). It's slightly more expensive, but very good!

It used to work for me, but doesn't do so well now.

Can I sugest an alternative?

Regular poster will know that I am not the most lentil/mooncup like of mnetters but someone sugested that I try this not so long ago. On an n of 1, and so not statistically significant , can I say that it worked for me.

Witch Stick, the stuff you use on zits.

not the gel, the stick. It does sting a bit, but you instantly feel the swelling go down. It halved the time it took my cold sore to clear last time

Obviously , don't use it on zits later as you could (potentially) spread the infection
