Heel pain getting worse - will medication help?

About 15 months ago, I self diagnosed plantar fasciitis, first on one side, then after a month or two, the other as well. All was going well, using a splint to stretch the leg, exercises first thing and when I could, and orthotics in work shoes. I lost weight hoping it would help too. Recently, the pain has become quite unbearable, when sitting as well as when getting up/walking.

Do I need to take anti inflammatories or something? Would like to exhaust all possible treatments before resorting to the dr (as I have heard there is little they can do)

Have you tried ultrasound. I'd go back to the doctor and have it checked out, you don't want to have torn something and not know.

Hi retired. I haven't tired ultrasound, no. Where I live, we have to pay for all medical care so I always try to self treat/ visit pharmacy before going to the dr. I wonder if I can self refer to ultrasound clinic? I will investigate. The symptoms are almost fm textbook PF but getting worse instead of better.

My Gp referred for ultrasound, it was done by the community physio. It helped for a while, they wanted to do an op but I didn't want it, now I just wear 'sensible' shoes and orthotic insoles and try not to do any running (which isn't difficult!) or carry anything too heavy.
