Stomach pain

I’m really trying not to be a baby about this but it’s my third night in pain and I’m not sure if I should be worried.

I started getting a bit of pain in my stomach last week, I put it down to overeating at Christmas and perhaps a bit of stress.

On NYE night the pain kept me awake, I spent all day yesterday feeling like I couldn’t function because of the pain, the same thing last night. I felt slightly better for an hour or two today but it has returned with a vengeance tonight.

I’ve tried Rennie deflatine - did nothing, so not trapped wind. Fybrogel in case of constipation, which I thought was unlikely anyway but still, no change. I’ve also tried lansoprazole, which hasn’t done anything either.

It’s a dull but strong pain below my sternum and across my ribcage. It hurts to breathe and laying down makes the area the hurts spread out. The same area of my back also hurts, almost like it’s right through.

I’m aware this likely makes no sense but I’m kicking myself for not phoning the GP this morning.

Any ideas?

Gallstones?

ShakeTheDisease · 03/01/2018 00:48

Are painkillers doing anything to help? I would definitely see your GP in the morning. Tell them it's an emergency and that it's painful to breathe.

Can you get more comfortable if you sit up? I've managed to sleep sometimes with back/chest pain by propping myself sideways along my sofa with my back against the arm IYSWIM.

Definitely see your GP. I had similar symptoms and it was an infected gallbladder. When I called 111 after about 36 hours of pain (which I thought was indigestion or trapped wind), I was sent to A&E (was a weekend and no OOH here).

I tried ibuprofen the first evening it was bad, for a headache and actually worried that it was that the caused the pain as I took it on an empty stomach. I’ve since taken paracetamol and that hasn’t been much use.

I didn’t think of gallbladder for some reason!

If it is my gallbladder, what will make the pain stop, do you know? I’ve got a very heavy baby and I’m finding it near impossible to pick him up feeling like this!

Is it like a sharp, stabbing pain?

I get something similar when I'm stressed Confused

justtryingtogeton · 03/01/2018 01:16

Hey,

After horrendous morning sickness and taking ranitidine for it, amongst other things.

I needed my gallbladder removed, I believe it's linked to gall stones.

Whilst waiting for the op, hot baths, all sorts of pain killers and Valium eased the pain. Morphine at a and e...

However, I also developed costochondritis. Maybe google that, as gallbladder pain is like a tight vice around your rib cage.

I hope you get some resolution.

If you have a heavy baby is it possible you could have pulled some muscles? That can be incredibly painful and can cause wraparound pain as the unpulled muscles try to compensate for the pulled ones.

I would go to GP first thing and get checked.

Definitely get an emergency appointment with GP in the morning. Tell them how long the pain has been there and that it hurts to breathe. In the meantime take the best painkillers you have in - step it up from paracetamol. Don't be fobbed off. A&E will be horrendous this time of year but go to a walk in centre if your GP won't help at all (be firm that you have to be seen).

confusedpain · 03/01/2018 02:11

Thanks all. Gallbladder seems to be matching my symptoms! I’ll call my GP in the morning.
