I can’t get into the doctors for two weeks. What does this look like?

I found this circular scaly red spot on my side a few days ago and it’s not improved at all. I’ve made an appointment at the doctors but I’m worried what it could be. Any ideas?

Ring worm?

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 18:13

Sorry forgot to post the photo.

How big is it? Eczema can come in circles.

mullmepopcorn · 27/12/2017 18:13

Ask the pharmacist

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 18:18

It’s about the size of a 5p. The pharmacist is a good idea. I can pop into a pharmacy tomorrow. Do pharmacists help with this sort of thing?

Looks a bit like psoriasis to me, mine starts out in circles like that. I’m no expert though.

Effendi · 27/12/2017 18:24

Looks like ringworm to me.

EduCated · 27/12/2017 18:25

Was going to suggest flashing it at a pharmacist as well, they can be good with these things.

Amanda89x · 27/12/2017 18:26

Looks like psoriasis to me personally

LizzyButton · 27/12/2017 18:31

Christmas stress can bring on psoriasis. If it is, steroid creams can stabilise things.

My aunt had a skin flare up a couple of years ago that was hard to diagnose. It turned out to be psoriasis but there were months of failing to treat something thought to be fungal.

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 18:42

I don’t think I have been around any people or animals that may have ringworm but it’s possible I guess. Hopefully a pharmacist would be able to identify it if that’s the case.

I thought psoriasis would be worse than one small scaly spot.

Ringworm isn't a worm, it's a fungal infection.

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 19:01

It is from infected people or animals though isn’t it?

HardAssSanta · 27/12/2017 19:03

Looks like psoriasis to me too, not at all like ringworm.

Myliferevolvesaroundcheese · 27/12/2017 19:19

Psoriasis starts with a small scaly patch like that, well mine does. You’re not always covered in it. I only have it on one leg in one patch at the minute.

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 19:38

Ok that’s interesting. Maybe it is psoriasis then.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 27/12/2017 19:39

It looks like psoriasis. I have it, just one tiny patch at a time and that's exactly what it looks like.

zoe9876 · 27/12/2017 19:46

Shingles?

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 20:13

I’m not sure it looks quite like shingles. It’s never been a blister just a patch of scaly skin.

Guttate psoriasis

zoe9876 · 27/12/2017 20:28

Argh ok, I thought it looked like little blisters from the pic, also I know someone who had it and it looked similar, but they had other symptoms too. A pharmacist tomorrow should be able to give you an idea, or at least put your mind at rest!

RaindropsAndSparkles · 27/12/2017 20:35

It looks just like the small 5p sized ring my pharmacist diagnosed as ringworm.

Pharmacist gave me cream and told me it would take a long time to clear. Cream twice daily abscess gone in 6 weeks. Worth getting started I'd have thought.

Mountsnowdon · 27/12/2017 21:17

That psoriasis photo does look quite similar @ikeatears I’ll try and get to a pharmacy tomorrow. If it’s ringworm they can hopefully give me something and if they think it might be psoriasis or something hopefully they can advise me what I need to do about it. Thank you for all the help everyone.
