Sickness bug and work

I've never phoned in sick to work before but had to yesterday due to sickness bug, I was told I needed a sick note from the doctor as I can't self certify for some reason. I phoned the gp today and am still waiting on a phone appointment, too late now so I guess I'll have to phone in the morning again, but can I go into work tomorrow night without a sick/fit note?

I'm totally clueless on all of this so any advice would be a massive help.

If you’re off for less than 7 days, you should be able to self certify. What reason are work giving for you not being able to?

I'm not really sure but my boss said I can't self certify due to the date, I'm guessing with it being so close to Christmas, to be honest I haven't got a clue why I can't self certify!

Maybe it's just the fact I need the fit note to be able to go back into work? Arghh I have no idea lol

No I'm not in a union. I'll have to just see what the gp says tomorrow. I thought I could self certify but my boss said no. I explained this to the gp receptionist and she seemed to know what I was talking about, asked if I worked with children or elderly, I do, so maybe that's why?

Just worrying now as my shift starts at 8 tomorrow night, and the gp didn't get back to me today, despite me phoning to check that I was on the list, I just hope I get a call from them tomorrow.
