I am so fed up.....I was quite ill a few weeks ago, high temp, shakes, etc, then just as I was starting to feel better my ear really hurt and felt blocked

Went to Docs, told her it it sounds like an untuned tele down there!!

she said it was a little red and gave me antibiotics

I took them for a week, finished them yesterday

I am still in pain, my ear is blocked and everyone has to keep repeating everything they say to me as the hearing has gone in it

as well as the sound of an untuned telly , I can only describe it as I have had somebody trampolining in my ear

It is annoying and painful and has been about a week and a half now

sometimes the pain goes into my jaw or my head

But she didn't really say much when I did go and only said it was a little red, so I feel silly going back to the docs, hate going as it is, But to tell her that somebody is trampolining in my ear?!!!!!!!

any advice, thanks

I needed 2 lots of ABs to clear the ear infection I had. I was still deafand had occasional shooting pains for a good 2 weeks after that though.

Please go back to GP. GPs always assume you are completely better if you don't go back, and it sounds as if you need more investigations and treatment. Your hearing is very precious, and clearly the infection is still there.

Go back. It was only a week after I gave birth, but I told GP I was having labour pains in my ear. Turns out my eardrum had burst due to an infection. You have my every sympathy!

agree with what others say and would also think that the pain in your jaw or head (which I usually get when unwell + ear ache) may be swollen glands as you are unwell? It would be worth mentioning that to dr.

anniebear · 22/04/2007 20:09

Thank you!

Looks like I will have to go back

Its the trampolining down there thats the worst thing lol

I am not ill now, glands are fine, itsjust the pains now and again hurt that the pain goes to my head and jaw

Thanks everyone

sounds like you probably have some catarrh in your ear, which is becoming infected which would explain the trampolining feeling, in the meantime try lots of steam to get things moving and visit the gp again..he will probably recommend decongestants as well as abs(if there is an active infection) which will get rid of the glue as well.

emankcin · 22/04/2007 20:16

Tinatus?

try google

Kaleidoscope · 22/04/2007 20:19

tinnitus is not unusual with glue ear or an infection and should clear up once the infection/glue clears.

PavlovtheCat · 22/04/2007 20:19

I have had this for about 1 month, one ear cleared on its own two weeks ago, and the other still blocked although I can hear pretty well. I am going to the Drs this week and have left it too long.
I definitely agree to go back, esp if he has already said it was swollen.
I know a few people who have had this recently, after a cold some GPs have said to use olive oil, another two said it was Glue Ear and gave antibiotics.

SofiaAmes · 22/04/2007 20:21

Go back to the gp. Most of the time it is just a little redness and you get antibiotics, which is probably why gp said that. But in your case it seems like it's more. And the gp would have had no way of knowing that at the time she saw you. I went completely deaf in one ear with an ear infection some years ago. And then had to take several weeks of this really awful superstrong antibiotic to get rid of it.

thanks everyone
