Breastfeeding and phantom period pains

I'm currently feeding my 1 yo regularly through the night so haven't yet got my periods back but for the last few months I've been experiencing period cramping at random times, usually for a few days and then it goes away for a couple of weeks. Right now though I'm on day 10 of these pains and I'm getting a bit fed up. I've spoken to my gp and he said to go back to them if it continues but has anyone experienced similar and if so how long did it go on for before your periods returned or could I be suffering from something else entirely?

Afterpains are Common when breastfeeding a newborn. I have had some hideous ones, but they are gone within the first week.

I don’t recall them a year on.

Do you get them just when you are breastfeeding?

Thanks for the response. They're pretty much constant. With my first I got my period back at 7 months with no clue but this time it literally feels like I'm about to come on any moment, only it's been 3 weeks!!
