Swollen, tender foot/ankle - not sprained

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I have a very tender and slightly swollen foot, but I haven't twisted or sprained it. It started a couple of weeks ago with tenderness across the top of my foot and it hurt to point my toe. It seemed to settle a bit but in the last couple of days my inner ankle is very tender - almost feels bruised to touch, and there's some swelling. No bruising or discolouration.

Any ideas what this might be and if it will settle down?

could be a blood clot.
see your gp

Blimey, that had not occurred to me. I guess a trip to the gp is in order. How would they tell if it's that I wonder?

I have tenderness on the top of my feet and they hurt when I stretch my toes downwards. The GP said I have tendonitis.
One of my ankles is tender too.

Oh that does sound similar Heratnumber7. What do you have to do?

He's given me Naproxen. It's an anti inflammatory, but stronger than ibuprofen.
