Liver nodule(s)?

Hi there... has anyone here had (or have!) liver nodules? I had a liver cyst found on a general abdominal ultrasound. Doctor was not concerned but referred for CT scan which was not much more conclusive... appeared as a benign cyst. Sent for an MRI which came back showing a growth that did not present as being malignant.

I've just had a follow up ultrasound and the 'thing' has got bigger. I can feel something as a dull ache on my right side but other than that no pain.

Doctor has referred me to a specialist and I am just having blood work done now to check liver function.

I feel great... well as great as one can when their day starts at 5:00 AM with a 5:30 trip to the gym, full time job, 2 hour a day commute, and 2 young children. I've googled 'liver cancer symptoms' nearly to death and even though GP can not find anything to indicate that my alien lodger is anything but benign I'm worried sick.

There isn't really a question here but if anyone has any experience to share that may be helpful I'd be very grateful. I'm
Irrationally terrified, lonely (emigrated a couple of years ago and no friends... whole other post there!)

Thanks!

Hi Purplefish

I had something similar found 7 years ago incidentally. Had mri. Told didn’t know what it was but benign. Follow up 6 months later no growth. Discharged.

Now fast forward to sept this year had an abdominal ultrasound for gallstones again. None. But showed the liver ‘thing’ has grown. By 5cm to be precise.

I got one letter saying no further imaging required and then I saw a liver consultant who said wants mri to compare mri from 7 yrs ago to now. Still said he thinks bengn hit if keeps growing might need surgery to get it out. Can’t biopsy it as it has vessels amongst it so too risky.

So I’m waiting for the mri. On the plus point it’s been there for 7 years and my liver looks normal apart from this thing and my bloods have always been normal. Consultant said he’s not concerned just dotting the i’s....

Sorry can offer reassurance as such. I was like you describe when this happened to me 7 years ago. Was such a shock and I was terrified.

Do you know what size it is and how by much it has grown? Here to talk any time.x

Thanks for replying with your experience! I don't know sizes... I didn't think to ask as the doctor gave me the results over the phone and I was quite distracted with pressing about whether it is cancer. I should get the blood results quite quickly as they are available to me online as soon as the lab does them (I'll be refreshing THAT screen like a mad woman tomorrow!).

Thank you.

Fx all is well with your bloods.

What I also meant to add was that at the time the Consultant said to me that they know what cancer looks like and the images on the mri did not look like cancer. Easier said than done but it all sounds reassuring and cysts also grow.

Since mine has been found I have had two pregnancies and I often wonder if the change in hormones have been what has caused it to grow.

The good thing is all the tests you have had so far and the diagnosis of them saying it looks benign.

I hope you get a sleep tonight.

Blood work appears fine. My liver seems to be working quite well despite its unwanted guest. What you said about the medical people knowing what cancer looks like is exactly what my doctor said to me... I hope you don't have to wait too long for your MRI!
