Is 37.5 a fever?

Been ill since Friday. General achiness and temperature. I thought I had a sore throat but think it's actually throat muscles hurting from swallowing.

Googling throws up different answers as to whether 37.5 is a fever or not. This was my temperature after a Lemsip.
I'm never ever ill. Surely I should be feeling better by now?

No

cakeymccakington · 10/12/2017 08:57

It really depends on your normal temperature.
But no, not really

Clovertoast · 10/12/2017 08:58

No.
38.5 and over really but it varies

Clovertoast · 10/12/2017 08:59

And its been 2 days? A common cold can last for a week.

Lucked · 10/12/2017 09:01

Sounds like you have a viral connection nfection. It's only been since Friday so not an unusual length of time.

Fairylea · 10/12/2017 09:05

For me that would be a mild temperature as I have a very low normal body temperature (thyroid issues) but for dh and dd that would be normal, so it really depends!

If you’ve only been ill since Friday I really wouldn’t worry too much, sometimes a virus can go on for a week or two! (Sorry!)

CoffeeBreakIn5 · 10/12/2017 09:06

My temp is always 36.6, every time it's been 37+ I've had an infection requiring antibiotics. It totally depends on what is usual for you, don't leave a temperature for more than 3 days as this is how complications happen. It won't hurt to see the gp tomorrow if your temp is still up.

LEMtheoriginal · 10/12/2017 09:06

Not sure I understand why you are asking. That would be a raised temp for dd but I'd not be giving paracetamol unless she had pain.

What matters is how you feel. Drink lots and honey and lemon drinks with added ginger - Brew

frogsoup · 10/12/2017 09:07

Practice nurse wouldn't give me the flu jab last week because my temp with ear thermometer was 37.5! Its higher than normal, which should be 36.5, so feels a bit like semantics to argue over whether it's a fever or not, it's certainly an indication that you aren't quite well!

CoffeeBreakIn5 · 10/12/2017 09:09

Sorry just wanted to add when I had sepsis
I felt generally unwell but nothing specific. Don't leave it if you don't start to pick up, obviously it's a rare complication but one with can most certainly be avoided.

DoItAgainBob · 10/12/2017 09:19

It's a low grade fever.

Normal body temp is 36 - 37.2

Lemsip has paracetamol in so it could have bought your temp down but temperatures don't need treating unless high (39.5+) or you feel crap.

If you took your temperature orally after Lemsip, it could be the hot drink pushing it up

sm40 · 10/12/2017 09:28

Coffee I've had sepsis too. Mine started with a killer sore throat. Never had a temperature (or may have been low which people dismiss). But my point is just because you don't have a temperature doesn't mean you are not Ill. As with coffee very very unlikely anything serious but always keep it in the back of your mind and check symptoms. I started to then be sick., and then not weeing.
Sepsis lecture over.
Hope you feel better soon. Sorry to probably over stress you but it's my mission to pass on the message.

pinkhorse · 10/12/2017 09:30

Thank you everyone. As I said I'm never ill so not really sure what to expect or when to worry. Haven't really got an appetite so have lost weight too.

DoItAgainBob · 10/12/2017 09:38

It's normal for your appetite to reduce when you feel ill. Rest, drink plenty of fluids, eat what you fancy, sleep.

If you feel worried, you can always call the out of hours GP. Hope you feel better soon.

Clovertoast · 10/12/2017 20:11

Its been 2 days Confused

Wish I could lose weight in 2 days!

pinkhorse · 10/12/2017 20:18

My temperature is now 39.1 and I have white tonsils so I guess it's tonsillitis Shock

If you took your temperature at least 45mins/ 1 hour after lemsip, your temperature will be down by around 1 degree(therefore without medication 38.5, which is definitely a fever). If you have had a fever, really sore throat, and have not been feeling well eg not well enough to go out/go to work/in bed at home, I would see my GP in another day or so. Hope you feel better soon.

Winifredgoose10 · 10/12/2017 20:23

Just saw your last post. Hope you can see your GP in the morning.

toastedbeagle · 10/12/2017 20:37

If your temp is over 37.2 then yes, that's up. Hope you feel better soon.
