Housemaid's knee

For no apparent reason, my knee is very hot and sore with a lovely fluid filled sac on front

It must be housemaid's knee.

Thing is, it's blooming sore. I can barely move it! (Which is great with three kids, one of whom has norovirus).

Should it be this sore? I'm worried it's infected but I have no fever

It could be a Bakers cyst (popiteal cyst) and you need to go to hospital. If it bursts ( mine did) its agonising and all the fluid in the cyst drains into your leg which becomes swollen and painful. Please go to hospital or GP.

I’m pretty sure an irritated bursa on the FRONT of the knee is not going to be a popliteal cyst. Rest, ice, elevation would be my suggestion for now. Have you actually been kneeling on the floor recently?

Dp gets this often at work! He's ended up needing a lot of physio on both knees as the anti inflamatories (did I spell that right? That's a tough one!) didn't do a thing and he was in agony.

I can't take ibuprofen annoyingly, as my stomach can't cope with it.

So maybe the pain is normal then? My knee is bright red.

Think I will check with GP tomorrow!
