Fluoxetine for PMT

I have just been prescribed this after having battled with this for years. I haven't taken it yet because I'm not sure how it will affect me and I want to pick a day. I'm told to take it all of the month. The dosage is 20mg.

Anyone care to share experiences before I get divorced? Wink

It works brilliantly for pnt.
I had a patient whose dh had issued divorce papers who turned it round on fluoxetine... So please give it a try
The possibility of side effects are low but patients can feel nauseated for few days
Worse is very vivid dreams.. Doesn't affect everyone though
Good luck

It works wonderfully for me.

I really suffered with highs and lows around my cycle, I drew the doc a graph of mood and energy levels which clearly showed a pattern. It's literally transformed my life. I've now started exercising as well and feel 10 times better. Zero side effects except slight loss of appetite in the early days - 20mg a day. Smile

Thank you. I will give it a go. I feel mildly excited at feeling close to normal again

I take citalopram for pmt (I have pmdd) for a week to ten days per month... works a treat!

Good for you op - hope you feel better soon, takes about 2 weeks to get in your system.

So, I've been on it for about 6 weeks now. The first cycle, it appeared to work well and it was a nice, stress free week anyway.

Last cycle, I was quite stressy but not as bad as usual and the PMT lasted about 4 days, as opposed to 10. I managed to keep my sense of humour and didn't ruminate as much or hate everyone as I normally would.

So, does this mean I need a higher dose or am I expecting a bit too much from the drug?
