Hi, i have a really bad ear infection. Started 8 days ago with a weird popping and blocked feeling. Ear then blocked up completely with tinitus and pain behind ear and around scalp. Outer ear also swollen up, hot red and swolen and very painful tender- looks like a rugby players ear! Saw locum GP monday and commenced fluclox 500mgs and otimise spray .

Four days in its no better.

Should I try and see someone today or wait untill monday when antibiotics finished?

i am very fed up. any advice?

You might need some drops on top of tablets

Hi. The otimise spray is an antibiotic and steroid. Have been using this in addition to strong antibiotics since Monday.
No improvement. WWYD?

There's a thing which is I think called mastoiditis, might be worth getting checked for that as can be quite nasty

just as an update, saw GP again friday, wanted me to finish antibiotic course and returning to see him later this afternoon. . Ear still painful , blocked, swollen pinna. I got my husband to take a picture so i could see it myself. Outer ear looks crusty with some blistering amidst the redness. I do feel whacked still, no energy, weak. Very painful to touch outer ear now and ouchy if hair or pillow touches.

Do you think this could be shingles instead of ear infection?

Certainly possible, although I would think quite unlikely given location - shingles tends to appear on limbs or trunk as a general rule...
