My dd3 has a lump- what could it be?

It is in the middle of her left calf. It isn't a bump or bruise, it has been there for 2 weeks and it isn't going down. It is making me really nervous. Any ideas before I go paranoiding off to the doctor for the fifty-millionth time this month?

Is it red, sore, tender, getting bigger? How old is she? Can you remember an injury of any sort? How big is it? 10p piece? tennis ball?
Sorry about the barrage of questions!

It's not getting bigger, don't recall any bump and there was never a bruise on it. It's the size of a marble, I'd say, naybe a bit bigger.

Sounds like some sort of cyst. I don't think the GP would think it unreasonable for you to ask him/her to take a look. But not as an emergency IYSWIM.

Thanks. She is due her 5 year check soon, so I shall wait and mention it then. Thanks for answering!

You don't say when the checkup is due, so if it changes, in any of the ways I have mentioned (unless getting smaller) get it checked sooner, but if it doesn't get bigger or inflamed etc, I think that would be ok.

I have to book the check-up sometime before Jan 2008, so I'm going to do it this month now- rather than waiting until December. I seem to be at that place too much, even for having 4 kids... shall set up my tent there.

DS had the same - halfway down his back. Was diagnosed as a "fatty lump" and eventually removed (largely for cosmetic reasons - so that he wouldn't get teased about it) when he was 3.5 (it appeared when he was about 14mths). Turned out to be a clump of blood vessels (can't even begin to spell the proper word at this time of night). Get it checked out, but given where it is it is v.unlikely to be anything sinister.

I have a huge one of those on my upper back - wonder if it's hereditary. Had forgotten about that.
