Capsule endoscopy- experiences and results

DH has recieved an appointment for his capsule endoscopy. He isnt great at asking questions of the docs and/or they don't seem to have explained much to him (not sure which as i havent been in his appointment).

If you had a capsule endoscopy what did the doctors think it might be, and what diagnosis did you recieve? If the results were inconclusive what steps did they take next ?

Just so i dont drip feed- dh was v anemic and had blood transfusion and iron iv. Endoscopy and colonoscopy found a hernia and haemorroids. Consultant letter says he doesnt think that is the route csuse of the anemia. Dh has profuse rectal bleeding... both of us arent sure the docs seem to grasp how profuse it is.

No experience of this procedure, but I know it is not as common as other endoscopy investigations. Hope the CE finds some answers for your OH.

I had one when I was passing black blood on occasion. They were looking for gastritis, an ulcer or hiatus hernia. They were pretty sure that mine was gastric as if it was coming from lower down the blood would be red.

They found nothing, but symptoms have stopped. I did have some burning in my throat and personally I think it was an ulcer caused by reflux. I was on meds (omeprazole) for a while, but have now come off.

Oh, not sure whether mine was 'capsule' or not. So probably not very helpful.

A capsule endoscopy is one where you swallow a camera in a capsule. It takes lots of pictures all through ths digestive system. They dont believe his previous colonoscopy or endoscopy have found what is causing the blood loss he has.
