I know you can't tell me but i have googled and i am panicking!

Basically i have had a cough for the past 7 days and generally feeling unwell. Now i have a pain in the top of my back and in my chest when i cough. Ive been taking paracetamol and doing normal things like going to work, doing the shopping but thought after 7 days should be starting to feel betterSad

You need to go and see your GP.

IwillrunIwillfly · 26/11/2017 14:03

It could be you've pulled a muscle with all the coughing, but if youre worried after a week would be fair enough to see the gp. Are you having high temperatures? And is it a productive cough? If not then its more likely to be viral and just taking a while to go away. But thats what gps are there for if youre worried!

I wouldn't be panicking after a week of cough. If you've had a temperature for all that time, see GP but don't expect antibiotics as they may say it's probably caused by a virus. And stop googling! Grin

Thank you UniversalTruth. Think i just needed some reassurance.

It doesn’t sound that unusual to be coughing after a week. And as a previous poster said the pain is most likely to be down to the coughing. I’d be more minded to suggest the GP if you described having breathlessness. All the websites I’ve looked at say three weeks is the time period when you should expect a cold/cough to clear up.

Could you get advice from a pharmacist?

CherryZee · 26/11/2017 19:12

I'd a cough that lingered for weeks, my ribs ached from it.
Went to GP after a fortnight, but he sounded my chest, put it down to a virus and said if it wasn't better in another couple of weeks to go back. Of course I didn't have to - it just gradually improved until it disappeared. No antibiotics required.

Yes colds suck. I wouldn't see a GP for the things OP has, especially not if I could still do normal things.

Whoyagonna · 26/11/2017 19:53

How bad is the pain? How easy is it for you to breathe?

Whoyagonna · 26/11/2017 19:56

Have you the usual symptoms of cold like sneezing, runny nose, headache etc.? Any vomiting? Have you been able to eat? Can you sleep comfortably?

haveabiscuitor2 · 26/11/2017 20:02

Thanks for replies.

I have usual symptoms of a cold - headache, runny nose and bit of sinus pain. Have been eating and sleeping okay apart from cough keeping me awake. Pain in back and chest is just when i cough

Ye, go to GP definitely. Hope you feel better soon.

haveabiscuitor2 · 27/11/2017 10:34

Felt worse last night and this morning. Just got back from GP who says chest is clear and it is flu and advised to go home and rest with co-codamol. I find it hard to rest, i need to get back to work Sad
