quick question re pill

dd is coming off the pill.she is planning to use another method.

just about to finish the pack..........but she was wondering is she protected from pregnancy after having sex this week?

So she's still taking the pill and when she finishes the pack she will then have a "pill free week"? I'd have said she is protected while taking the pill and during the first week after finishing the pack.

But not really, because after those seven pill free days she will be potentially fertile and sperm can live inside the vagina for almost a week. So if she was to have unprotected sec towards the end of that week it could lead to conception several days later.

Bumper is right. She needs to use contraception to very day to be safe.

She would be very nlucky but why take a chance?

sorry - just to clarify she took the final pill tonight
but has had sex this past week
so technically not unprotected but will she still be protected by the pill as she has now finished taking them?

no it would be like missing a pill. she could still get pregnant.

In that case she should be fine, she would be ok if going to start again in a week, so as long as safe from now on...

i think the only way to be 100pc sure is to double up next month - so that's the plan :)

She could just keep taking the pill for another week and use barrier methods from now on until she changes. Ideally you shouldn't have a break between stopping one method and starting another so if she has another pill packet in the house just start that.

What's the other method she will use?

You are protected for 7 days of non pill taking, if you go over that to eight days you are not from what you have described your daughter is unlikely to be pregnant.

I would start using condoms in the pill free week. She will be protected for the pill free week by the pill but sperm can hang around for a few days so could still be there when that week finishes
