Steroids making me feel weird

I currently have my second bout of sinusitis in as many months. The first bout I had antibiotics which did bugger all so was prescribed steroids which cleared it up quickly and effectively, in fact I felt great!
This time I had antibiotics which did bugger all and they have prescribed me the same steroids as last time. This time I feel awful, head feels like it's being crushed from both sides, and the back, I feel sick, anxious and just plainly weird. I don't understand why I would have this reaction if I was fine last time??
Any experiences?

I used to feel sick for a couple of days after stopping a week of steroids... and felt a bit down too.
Steroids do funny things to you! They're so good at getting you better quickly though!

I have inhaled steroids for asthma, and usually they feel great.

But last month I had a similar reaction to what you describe-headache, panicky, sick feeling.

I just took a day off (asthma symptoms came back immediately) and then had a fresh start.

Yes steroids are both miraculous and devastatingly awful. I talk for England, get a buzzy head, feel nauseated, feel very other worldly, hoover at 3am, can’t sleep, get irritable. There all quite usual side effects of oral or IV steroids.

Oh thank you all! I was beginning to think I was going mad! I've only taken 3 days worth and feel awful! I can't really explain it, it's like my stomach feels sort of empty and sour?? And my head and neck just feel horrible 😞
It will pass soon right? I'm so scared to fall asleep in case I wake up and feel sick/vomit!

So today my head is hurting so much I can't really lift it off the pillow! This will get better won't it??

I had (admittedly pretty strong) steroids after brain surgery.

I didn't sleep a wink for a whole week - couldn't even close my eyes. I spent all night hallucinating and making feverish plans for all manner of home improvements which I regaled my long-suffering DH with in the morning Grin

I felt permanently jittery and as if my brain was constantly stuck on top speed. Weird and unpleasant feeling and I was massively relieved when I could stop taking them.

Oral steroids usually make me a bit hyper - I have been known to do late night runs down empty hospital corridors to burn off energy! I have also had some smashing hallucinations which I thoroughly enjoyed, but I seem to hallucinate on anything stronger than cocodamol so maybe it's just me.

Is it possible that you are clenching your jaw subconsciously because of the pain? That could be adding to the headache. It's a vicious cycle Sad

It could also be because the steroids are actually working. As they help to reduce the sinus inflammation the pressure in your ears and sinus cavity will be fluctuating which will then cause dizziness and nausea. I would guess if you were going to be sick you would have been within 24 hrs of starting the steroids.

It sounds as if you have a particularly nasty infection and you're 'proper poorly' as they say round my way. Lots of fluids and don't beat yourself up if you can't sleep - it won't be forever Flowers
