Mirena Removal

Newbie here!
Need some reassurance. Basically I had my Mirena Coil fittted in June 17 and had it removed November 17 as I was bleeding for the 5 months since having it.
After I had it removed I had no bleeding or spotting but after the 2nd day after removal I’ve started bleeding extremely heavily. Never had anything like this before and my gp never warned me this could happen. Second day now of heavy bleeding, like it’s just pouring out and wondered if this is normal? Can’t get a doctors appointment for a weeks time and I’m only 23. Had the implant fitted the same day as removal of Mirena.

I'd ring 111 just to check

I did yesterday and went to see out of hours Doctor but he was useless. My Doctors can’t get me in until next Tuesday

I had mine fitted in April this year but apart from a load of spots I haven't had much of an issue. My friend had hers in three weeks and begged for it to be taken out as she was bleeding so much. How are you feeling in yourself? If you're lightheaded etc then it might be worth another call and seeing another doctor? Sorry I'm not much help

That's okay, I'm new to all of this so I don't know much either hahaa. I feel okay today, I've taken some iron tablets which my gp gave me when I had problems with the mirena in and have a load of them left. My main concern was just the bleeding as I didn't expect it to happen. Couldn't take having the coil in any longer, just had problems since I had it fitted but the consultant was adamant that it would be the best thing for me. I'm hoping the implant will be better for me Smile

Fingers crossed for you. It's not for everyone. Hope it all calms down soon

Oh god I had horrendous bleeding and clotting for a few days, which started a couple of days after removal. It’s normal, doesn’t happen to everyone but it’s something to do with the sudden drop in hormone levels.

Glad I’m not the only one. I did have the implant the same day so I’m hoping that will help too.
It’s scary as gps don’t warn it can happen

Agreed, really scary. I’ve never bled so much in my life, the nurse said I may or may not have some ‘light’ bleeding, but I was utterly unprepared for what actually ensued! I had to google and realised that it’s actually pretty common.

BeckyMae · 25/11/2017 22:13

That’s what I felt, my go never warned about any bleeding/spotting. I’ve never researched so much in my life.
First day today of no bleeding so hopefully I’m over the worst, fingers crossed Smile
