What would you guess from these symptoms?

34 year old female. Non smoker, non drinker, slightly underweight, possibly low iron (always refused to give blood).

Been getting steadily worse over 12 mths. I always feel like I’m making a fuss at the doctors so haven’t been for years. I feel really quite unwell with this at the moment. It isn’t constant but will be bad for a few weeks and then improve for a few days. The palpitations and pressure in my head has been getting much worse this week. As has the dizziness and shortness of breath when talking on the phone or even reading DD a story.

I’m going to the GP tomorrow but just thought I would see what you thought

What would you guess from these symptoms?

Low iron or low vitamin d can cause those symptoms but definitely get full bloods done.

Bumblina · 20/11/2017 22:42

Ear infection ?

Bumblina · 20/11/2017 22:44

Sorry just read it's been 12 months. I'd guess you're deficient in one or more vits, maybe b12 and vitamin D. Tell GP everything and hopefully bloods will show th cause x

Fairylea · 20/11/2017 22:45

Addison’s disease?
Thyroid issues
Anaemia ?

Aliosa · 20/11/2017 22:48

Thyroid is a slight possibility. I had it done years ago and my T3? was literally just outside the range for Hyperthyroid. Could explain the racing heart/palpitations?

Yes, thyroid regulates speed on which heart etc work so if you are having to much thyroxine your body will work faster. Also every hospital lab ranges are different so best check the numbers as just outside in your trust area could be inside the range somewhere else.

furryelephant · 20/11/2017 23:01

I was going to say POTS too.

YNK · 20/11/2017 23:02

Blood tests for B12, folate, ferritin, FBC and full thyroid panel would be helpful.
I also think thyroid and pernicious anaemia need to be ruled out.

Sienna333 · 20/11/2017 23:02

I am guessing anaemia too

Fairylea · 21/11/2017 06:35

It may be POTS but keep in mind that pots can be caused by many things - such as anaemia, thyroid problems or Addison’s disease - hence my earlier post. Sometimes pots does happen for no other reason but it does need proper investigation. (I have all three of the conditions I suggested).

LapinR0se · 21/11/2017 06:42

Anxiety

Aliosa · 21/11/2017 09:33

Is POTS a blood pressure thing?

My blood pressure is consistently 80/40, it’s been the same for years.

Interesting you say anxiety Lapin, what makes you think that?

Get your magnesium levels checked too

Squeegle · 21/11/2017 09:53

Just wait till you get to GP. Very unreliable responses you will get here Confused

Anatidae · 21/11/2017 09:56

Well that’s very low BP. That alone could cause a lot of those issues, but is unlikely to be the root cause

You need a full workup to see what’s causing it.

LapinR0se · 21/11/2017 11:58

Because I had very similar symptoms and kept going for tests that were all clear. But when I started on anti depressants for anxiety all of the symptoms went away.

Anatidae · 21/11/2017 12:01

Anxiety can definitely cause some of the symptoms but you need a full workup - your blood pressure is VERY low.

Your symptom list could be a number of things - it’s really important that you get checked out.

KyloRensLightsaber · 21/11/2017 12:05

I was told similar symptoms were low BP and to eat a bit more salt.

Aliosa · 21/11/2017 12:26

It has always been that low. GPS/nurses have always said it’s not a problem unless it causes fainting etc. It’s generally fine although I have to be careful getting out of a hot bath or I do go woozy.

Lapin, I suffered anxiety for many years. Extensive CBT and anti depressants and I now feel better than I’ve ever felt mental health wise. I’m at the least stressful part of my life so far. This feels very different to the physical symptoms of anxiety/stress I had for a long time.

timeistight · 21/11/2017 12:38

BP 80/40 will give you all those symptoms.

Low BP can be a symptom of hypothyroidism, so another vote here for getting your thyroid properly checked.

Aliosa · 21/11/2017 13:12

Hypo or hyper? Because last time it was nearly hyper. Would be surprised if it was hypo, I’m as thin as a rack and struggle to put weight on.

Resting heart rate is around 45-50. I think that’s just how I’m made re blood pressure etc

OP posts:
Utini · 21/11/2017 13:15

Low heart rate is also a hypothyroid symptom.

LapinR0se · 21/11/2017 13:29

Oh good I am glad you’re feeling better from your anxiety. It’s a bugger.
Completely agree with everyone saying to get checked out. Best of luck & health

PissedOffNeighbour · 21/11/2017 18:09

Thyroid. I had headaches and dizziness too.
