Has anyone ever been low on Folic acid?

With absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy?

I've just been prescribed it as I'm low in it.
What does it do apart from protect baby's spine or whatever it does in pregnancy?

Yes, I had folate anaemia last year. You need folic acid for a number of things, including making red blood cells

MycatsaPirate · 20/11/2017 17:50

Yes, repeatedly!

This is my third lot of folic acid to help improve my levels.

Lack of it causes tiredness.

Could explain me sleeping all day long and awake all night! I'm also anaemic but have gastritis so she has prescribed me a syrup for kids as too many tablets will affect stomach.
If I could eat I'd be needing steak every day I reckon.
Half the problem is the gastritis so I can't blooming eat. Anyway, she has doubled the dose of the stomach tablets so that might help.

Also have a 2cm cyst on ovary which she reckons will go away by itself. What exactly is a cyst? She said to go back in 6 months for referral as they won't accept referral now.
Don't know what is keeping me held together to be honest.

Yes, I was feeling tired and was found to be low on folic acid. Much better since taking doctor prescribed supplements.

Good for you getting the syrup/liquid - I can't get hold of any at all

Folic acid works with B12 so maybe get that checked too in case it's low?

hiddley · 20/11/2017 18:05

I was putting my lethargy down to depression or pure laziness. Maybe it was the anaemia and folic acids being low all the time.

I'm already on Vitamin B Co Strong and 100mg of Thiamine daily.
The Vitamin B compound contains:
Nicotinamide
Thiamine Mononitrate
Riboflavin
Pyridoxine HCI

I am a very bold patient though and don't always take them as they sometimes make me vomit.

Yep, when I had glandular fever, added to the general lethargy and I seem to remember, temperature control.
