Some one I know has just been prescribed it and is wondering how quickly it will start to work and what the possible side effects might be. TIA

Hi,

I took Paroxetine about two years ago now. It worked for me in that it sorted out my depression. The only problems I had with it were that it made me crave stodge and at first I really struggled not to put on weight (but a friend of mine found it made her lose weight !) . Also it was not easy to come off in that I tried just stopping it (after seeing a useless locum GP ) and felt really ill . However then saw my own GP who switched me to a liquid form and I just slowly reduced the dosage took about 5 weeks to come off completely .
So I guess I would say that I had a positive experience , it helped me through a really rough time. Started working within about two weeks.

I found that I felt better after three weeks and much better after six, which is apparently the textbook reaction to paroxetine. It gave me my life back.
