Weird stomach issues

A month ago I had a severe stomach bug which included stomach cramps, nausea and severe diarrhoea which turned bloody for a few days but then turned back to normal diarrhea. This went on for weeks. It stopped and I had a good few weeks with no symptoms. Now I have had 2 days in the past week when I have been constantly on the toilet passing very small stools at a time after everything I eat. I have to strain to pass them so not like the diarrhoea I was getting before. There is no blood, no pain or stomach cramps, the stools aren't floating or anything like that.
Any clue as to what is going on? I am terrified it is something awful. Stool sample came back clear when I had one done a few weeks back. I am petrified.

By 2 days in the past week I mean this Thursday and today I had the issues again. Rest of the week I was fine.

Lactose intolerance? You can get a temporary lactose intolerance after a stomach bug.

Fauxtatoes · 19/11/2017 19:49

Your gut flora is probably out of balance after the bug. Take some probiotic 4 billion if you can find it. Biocult is a good one.

Why would I be ok for a few weeks though? I am scared.

Are you dehydrated? May be an idea to up your fluids after that type of bug

smellybeanpole · 19/11/2017 20:08

Sounds like ibs to me. Since you had that stomach bug it can throw your whole digestive system off for a while. But maybe see the gp again to see what they say.

Sienna333 · 19/11/2017 20:27

I thought IBS caused pain and I don't have any. It also happens on and off like this week it was 2 days in a week and the rest of it I was fine. I don't understand how I can be fine for three weeks and then have problems again.

Dehydration wouldn't cause this issue though would it? I am drinking only water at the moment.

Please go to the doctor. Any change in bowel habits and blood in stool should be checked even if you’ve had a bug. It’s probably nothing but no harm being cautious

Sienna333 · 19/11/2017 20:47

The blood in stool stopped once the bug was over. I don't have bleeding or pain anymore.

Ibs effects people differently. I really do think it’s still the effects of the stomach bug you had previously. As pp have mentioned take some prebiotics and please contact the gp for your peace of mind.

Sienna333 · 19/11/2017 21:03

I am just terrified it is something sinister yet why the no pain, no bloating, no bleeding, being okay on some days but not others....it is utterly weird :(

It sounds like constipation, Crohns hurts, Crohns effects lots of other parts of your body. Try to stay hydrated and maybe keep a food diary! (I'm on the Crohns thread)

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/11/2017 21:23

I have IBS and I don't have pain with it. Just on and off bowel issues. I've had it pretty much all my life so I don't find it weird anymore, but the description of symptoms coming and going sounds very normal to me.

Sienna333 · 19/11/2017 21:26

Hmm, see, I was thinking constipation as well but I thought that meant you couldn't go at all. What is happening today (And on Thursday) was the constant need to have a bowel movement but only a small pebble (sorry) came/comes out each time. As I said, no pain at all, not even a tiny ache or cramp. I am not hurting anywhere.
I will start a food diary and see if I can get somewhere with that. It's so frustrating

Sounds like post infectious IBS to me. It comes and goes, that's very typical

BusterGonad · 20/11/2017 07:00

Have you been tested for H pylori?

BusterGonad · 20/11/2017 07:21

I'm not entirely sure of the symptoms of it (H pylori) but I've had it!

Sienna333 · 20/11/2017 07:27

I haven't...will look into it, thank you.

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 20/11/2017 07:48

The treatment for it is harsh. Lots of horrible antibiotics which make you very heady and spaced out! They diagnosis it through a breath test (if I remember rightly) everyone has the bacteria in there stomach but people with H pylori have too many/much.

BusterGonad · 20/11/2017 07:49

Sorry, lots of typos....it's early! 😂

Sienna333 · 20/11/2017 13:55

I don't think it is that as I have no pain. My nan has had stomach issues like this for many years as well as mucus in stools and always put it down to food intolerances and a cure has never been found at the doctors. I worry I will be like her for the rest of my life now :(

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 20/11/2017 15:14

I'm not sure H pyroli causes pain!

Sienna333 · 20/11/2017 15:23

I just wonder why I would be ok for three weeks drinking milk and eating wheat (So unlikely to be food intolerance) and then not be ok again.
Today I have only been once but I still constantly feel like I need to go and have a slight feeling of constipation
