We have seen the doctor - three times now - and are waiting for a referral to a dermatologist but have no idea how long this is going to take so thought I'd just take a chance and ask on here just to see if anyone has any ideas!
DH had a rash on his knee two months ago, on the side of his knee - started as a flat red patch [quite small] and gradually spread, getting redder and redder and sorer and sorer, until it almost blistered like a bubble, and then started oozing yellowy pus streaked with pus [grim I know]. Doctor said it was most likely an infection and prescribed antibiotics, the course nearly cleared it up completely but not quite, took it down to a tiny red patch. DH went for a follow up and they gave him cream which they said would get rid of the rest. Only it hasn't. It stayed quite small for a while, and now, while using the cream, is bigger and bubbly again [like one big blister but with red, sore skin over the top]. It hurts when DH moves his knee now, probably because of the pressure it's putting on the skin. He went back again, they then said they didn't know what it was and gave him a short course of antibiotics again [which we don't think will do much seeing as the first course was longer and didn't clear it completely] and that he needs to wait for a referral but they can't say how long that will take.
In the meantime, it's causing DH a lot of discomfort and we have no clue what it could be! Didn't know if anyone specialised and it would sound familiar to them? Not to get a diagnosis just an idea really and if there's anything else we can try.
Can supply pics if needed but didn't want to put them up with no warning! I appreciate asking on the internet isn't ideal, and I don't expect a definitive answer here - even if you could advise generally how long it takes for a referral that would be helpful, the doctors seem to have completely washed their hands of it.
