mirena coil removal

Hi Can I ask apart from the GP surgery where else can you go to get a Mirena Coil removed?. I have had mine nearly 6 years now and can't go to GP as a friend does the coil removals there. Does anyone know how painful it is as well and is it like a smear test to take it out? Thanks for any advice.

I had my second Mirena Coil fitted at a sexual health/well woman clinic, my GP surgery does not deal with coils. I had to sit and wait with lots of young girls and a few older women, and wait in a queuing system. Taking it out was fairly straight forward and pain free but putting the new one in was quite painful, more so than when I had it put in the first time. The doctor who fitted my first one said that taking neurofen about 30 minutes before the procedure as would help make it more comfortable.

I pulled my own out as it had shifted and the plastic bit was sticking through my cervix! (Not recommending this btw).

I would assume that any family planning / GUM clinic would be able to do this for you

I pulled mine out too.

Not painful at all. Not comparable with having it put in. Nurse should be able to do it for you if you have access

Thank you I will try calling a clinic tomorrow and see if they do it. I don't think I could do it myself. would worry about not pulling the strings right etc. Thank you for the advice ;)

I went to the local family planning clinic as the wait at my gp was over 4 weeks- the removal itself was really quick & easy! Felt like a dinosaur in there though as the waiting room was full of teenagers!
