Line on nail and worried

I have had a brown line on my nail for a couple of months now. I have seen all of the stuff about melanoma. I saw my gp this morning who said he is fairly sure it is nothing serious. He said I have no family history or any other reason to think it’s melanoma. He said to monitor it but he still is sure it’s nothing serious. I am still bloody worried!

I had a browny purple line on my toe which seemed to appear suddenly. I became alarmed when I was having a pedicure and it was mentioned, so I kept an eye on it. What I noticed is that it seemed to grow upwards with the nail - it grew out. I would look to see if it appears to be growing out and if there was any sign of it getting worse I would be back at the GP demanding a referral.

I did too, a few months back and googled! Panic!
I went to my GP and she insisted it was a bruise but I said I would like it further investigated please. I was referred to a specialist. If you say you are concerned, I'm sure they will refer you!

The doctor was totally unconcerned and he said it doesn’t present like melanoma would at all. I have no history etc

It is worrying but he did say after examining it that the presentation suggests damage to my nail. I used to bite my nails to the quick and he said that could be a bearing on it!
