Rub some oil (have used almond) on and leave for about an hour. Wash off at bathtime. I use Dentinox.

Mumpbump · 16/04/2007 13:20

Don't pick at it as it can pull the hair out! I second the oil suggestion. You can also try brushing the hair/scalp after the bath to help loosen the scales whilst they are still soft...

i have been using olive oil a bit but wonderedif this is enough, as it hasn't gone. do i need to use dentinox or similar to get rid of it completey?

use aveeno cream on the cradle cap. cleared up dd's cc in four days after using olive oil and fine tooth comb for four months.

cathcart · 16/04/2007 13:24

thanks, have seen different types of aveeno in boots. is there one particularly for babies/children?

i used the standard aveeno cream - afaik there isn't a children's one. good luck!

beansprout · 16/04/2007 13:29

bossykate - sorry, but how many times a day do you use it? Just keep reapplying it? Ds still has c/cap, as you may have guessed!!!

cathcart · 16/04/2007 13:30

I used olive oil and then the cat licked it off When I was a little more vigilant, I put the oil on just before bed / long nap time then washed Ds's head gently with baby shampoo when he woke up. It takes a while but does go in the end, I don't think it bothers the baby at all.
Tesco's also do a cradle cap shampoo which worked well

bossykate · 16/04/2007 15:17

we applied it once a day, after bath time. hth.

I tried everything but nothing helped dd scalp ( she was itching so much big clumps of her scalp were coming out, leaving weeping sores) so took her to see the practice nurse at our GPs and she gave me a fantastic shampoo called Nizoral. It works great.

i baste ds regularly with Epaderm, and brush off the flaky stuff with a soft baby brush.
