At the age of 36 I’ve recently had my first uti.

All I can say is ouch.

Had clear test results today after 2 lots of antibiotics.

Has anyone any advice of how to sooth the residual pain from the inflammation - my right kidney and bladder are still a wee bit sore

Keep hydrated, take paracetamol / ibuprofen for pain if needed.

I am sadly very experienced in this field. I would say if you still have pain, then the infection has not cleared or there is something else going on. I've never known pain to continue once the ABs start to work, and I have had severe pyelitis and countless countless attacks of cystitis.

Are they sure of the cause of your UTI? Why the 2 lots of ABs?

It took a while for the results to come back and the first antibiotics weren’t strong enough so was put on a higher dose of amoxicillin. My doctor says it’s very common for the pain to last after the infection has cleared as everything is still raw and inflamed in my bladder and tubes

When I say pain it’s not sore sore and it’s not constant just a twinge here and there. I’m peeing normally and everything now

OK, if you think it is nothing to worry about (and I am not saying that passive aggressively, just that I would not be able to relax when I still had symptoms) then Lovelilies has the best advice: drink loads - soreness should be less with more dilute urine - and take painkillers. I find heat is good too - a warm hot water bottle pressed against the sore place usually works.

No, go with your doctor! Don't listen to me. I am a hypochondriac and always look on the negative side! To be fair, my repeated attacks in my youth did have a very unusual cause which was completely overlooked for a couple of years and ended up nearly killing me, but the chances of you having anything like that are about zero. Seriously. It turned out I had a massive benign tumour on my kidney which had to be sent off to London for analysis because none of the doctors knew what it was, it was that rare. As I said, there is pretty much zero chance you could have the same thing. But it has me cautious, and pretty hysterical every time I've had a UTI (for completely normal reasons) since.

Ifyour doctor said soreness is normal, then it is normal. Just drink lots, and take the painkillers, and keep an eye on any symptoms. Even if it hasn't gone away yet, you aren't going to die of a UTI.

And if you go back to your doctor quoting my story, they won't have a clue what you are talking about because no-one ever has. I have to explain it every single time I see a medical professional.

Even a couple of my friends who have experienced utis have said that it’s the inflammation that lingers for a while. My friend who had one years ago still gets kidney pain now

So it turns out my pain was my sacroiliac joint and I need physio. Nothing to do with uti after all

I'm also experienced in this. Had a UTI for three months last year resulting in all kinds of tests .

I had tons of different AB's and nothing felt Ike it worked.

After tests to rule out anything really nasty I just resigned myself to the fact I'd just have to live with it.

As it happened the irritation eventually subsided on its own, very gradually, over a period of weeks. Mine felt like my wee pipe was tender/inflamed.

So I suspect this may be the case with you. I do think that after a. As infection it can take your nethers a little while to get back to normal.
