Chest pains

Gp has listened to my heart and lungs and says all sounds normal and I had an X-ray today which radiographer says looks fine but will await radiologists view.

What could it be?

It's on my lhs, under my boob around to mid point of my back, sometimes centre of my chest.

Occasionally a deep breath hurts in my shoulder too.

I have acid reflux and severe health anxiety so every twinge and pain terrifies me.

My back aches too.

Any ideas? I'm so stressed and anxious by it.

Gallbladder? That can hurt in weird places.

Currently experiencing exactly the same OP. Have been for 7 weeks, I've had 3 ecg, blood tests and 2 chest x rays and everything is fine. Doctors are baffled. I also suffer with health anxiety and no it can be distressing. I'm currently sat here with pains and am reasoning with myself that my "heart is fine you are not having a heart attack". Doctors keep saying it's a virus, you've pulled a muscle, its acid etc. Currently on anti inflammatory tablets for Inflammation to chest, hopefully these work soon. But do be reassured that if you've had an x ray and a doctor is saying you're fine you most probably are.'I honestly know how you feel because even now I have days where I'm like no they are all wrong, but let's try and be reasonable. Like my doctor said you've probably got a pain in your chest and because of our anxiety we are making it worse because we are purely concentrating on that

Naomi I'm so sorry you're having similar. Each pain sets off panic doesn't it? It's cyclical. I'm awaiting my chest X-ray result at the end of the week. Hopefully that'll give some answers.

Hope your X-ray result will help. I know how scary it is. I'd never had chest pains before in my life but speaking to people since I've had mine they are fairly common. My doctor said to me if they are on your left or right side it probably isn't your heart as the nerves for heart are in center of chest. That being said please don't panic if it is in center unless it's a crushing feeling or agonising xx

I had a terrifying centre chest pain at 11pm last night. So much scarier at night time. I was very panicked but my dh talked me down with deep breathing and it passed after about 5mins but feels longer. Then I slept with one eye open scared it'd happen again.

X-ray result all normal.

anxiety and panic attacks are very strong things. I'm sitting here now with chests pains and pains in my arms but I have to tell myself if I'm having a heart attack I've been having one every single day for 7 weeks. Now that sounds crazy but I still sometimes think I am. If you don't mind me asking how old are you? Do you have any family history of heart disease?

Costochondritis?

I'm 29 with a history of panic attacks a few Years ago but I've never experienced chest pains before. No family heart disease.

I’ve had both and both times thought I was having a heart attack.

The pains are on my left side wrapping front to back on my ribs, under my boob and into my shoulder and then separately in the centre of my chest.

Sounds like anxiety to me. Caused by shallow breathing, try using some deep heat on the area and focus on breathing.

I had a similar experience in February (pain under my boob that went on for weeks, sometimes pain on my back, etc). Went to the GP, they referred me to get my boobs checked. Did mammogram + scan, there was nothing. Dr said it sounded like Costochondritis.
But yesterday I was really anxious and had the same pain you describe in the middle of my chest, so I’m thinking it’s probably stress-related... I just did some breathing exercises and it calmed me down.

Last message doesn't seem to have posted so will try and remember what I said ... I'm 26 with no family history and every doctor I have seen in a&e and gp surgery have said I would be incredible unlucky to have a heart attack at my age, you are of similar age and history. Has something happened lately that has caused you anxiety? Changes? When I'm in a rational mind state I think that mine all started when my husband got a new job. It meant further travelling and being out the house for 12 a day, previously it was only 9. I have a 7 month old baby so those extra 3 hours alone with anxiety can be horrible for me, and having to look after a baby and try not to show I'm feeling anxious is horrible. Sorry to hear that Naomi I have two daughters and a job I despise which yes is stressing me out but I just can't fathom how an emotion can manifest so physically.

Your acid reflux might be caused by a hiatal hernia. The pain at night is typical pd this. I had symptoms exactly like yours when I had a flare up of my hiatal hernia and was very glad I knew what it was as the pain in the middle of the chest going round to my upper back was what I thought a heart attack might be like.

Or as pps have said, costochondritis seems very possible.

Have you hit your self anywhere, or lifted any heavy objects etc because I had this and had pulled a muscle.

Nope no muscle damage. The X-ray has reassured me a bit but then I swing to crazy panic lady as soon as the pains come back.

I had a similar experience and it was costochondritis.

I have similar and it's anxiety. Breathing physio helped.
