Thinning hair, hairy face, overweight etc

I am overweight - seriously so. My hair is thinning (on the very top) and my face is getting quite hairy. From what I can gather, I possibly have PCOS (do have periods though). Have just joined the gym and aiming to sort things out. Anyone else experience of this or want to join me in my quest to become a thing of beauty!

Have you had your thyroid checked?

ihatethegym · 15/04/2007 07:40

No - will look into this.

Definitely have thyroid check.

I have PCOS and it does sound like you do too. Am not thinning on top or particularly overweight but do suffer with the hairy thing although not excessively.

I am awaiting results for a hormone blood test and will see what that says.

It is another symptom though that PCOS sufferers do find it hard to lose weight.

Well done on joining the gym!!

OOH! Was going to put 'Sounds like Polycystic Ovaries' and someone beat me to it!

My hormone test was fine. the nurse said if I wanted to try and lose weight (I would like to lose one and a half stone ) that I should try the GI?? diet.

I lost 2 stone on the GI diet. But it would be a pain to follow it precisely. I would recommend buying the book so that you can refer to which foods are high/med/low GI, but just stick to the principles and abide by the author's main instruction, which is not to worry if you eat fattening things now and then - it's what you do most of the time that counts!
