Earache...but not constant

It's been driving me nuts for a few days. Coming and going ear pressure/ache. Any ideas? If it was persistent I'd assume wax/infection but no idea with the fact it goes and comes back.

Anyone?

had the same thing for nearly three weeks as have a lot of co-workers - really hoping it flares up properly and then goes!

Yes I think it's getting to the point of turning properly. My ear is whistling/really full/sore. Do they always need antibs? Last time I had an ear infection (same ear) the drum burst.
