Sorry to be graphic Blush

I had a baby 4 months ago and ever since have had awful constipation, my stools are very hard, small lumps and sharp Blush I took Lactulose for a few weeks but didn’t drink enough liquid and it got worse so stopped it. Now I’ve got cuts in my bottom and need to figure out how to let them heal but every time I go it’s making it worse.

Someone please help!

Hi twinkle - you need to increase your fibre intake and drink lots of water. I would go back to your go who may prescribe som cream. Sound painful.

Glycerine suppositories. It'll stop you straining. Don't use them and then pop out for a shopping trip....stay local Wink

Then once they've worked don't rub and rub yourself clean. Warm damp cloth and patting. Let it heal. And once it has make sure you up the fibre to prevent the problem cycling round.

I hate the glycerine ones - I use soothing ones for piles which make going to the loo less painful. I also take Laxidose and Dioctyl daily and have done for years, decades even. On the other hand a tin of beans or a tin of prunes will also work!

You don't want more fibre. Yes this can work for constipation but it bulks your poo up and this isn't what you want if you have fissures (cuts).

Go to gp and ask for movicol and an ointment for fissures. Avoid any constipating foods and don't strain. Drink a glass of prune juice every night. Prune juice is your best friend if you have fissures. Best of luck.

drink lots of water. smooth Vaseline on the area. Sennokot on an evening is quite good. Prunes with plain yogurt and a cup of coffee in morning did it for me. I had the tears and cuts, it's painful but doing the above things sorted in a few weeks

You poor thing. It was the worst aspect of my recovery from birth of DS2. I'd be so keen to try for a VBAC and this was the result

Anyway. Good advice above. It will get better

Pears are very good, and not as bad as the prunes to manage. Try and eat 2 pears a day. Also, when on the loo put your feet up on something low, so that your knees are a tiny bit higher than your bum.

Sod all the recommended laxatives. The only thing that works is milk of magnesia.

But do be warned op it is very very effective. It turns it to liquid very quickly.

Pixiedust1973 · 23/10/2017 16:16

Get some Laxido or Movicol & use suppositories. Constipation is my life so is my specialist subject unfortunately!

Kiwi and kefir. Plus oitment for the fissures
