Celiac test

Hi does anyone know about the tests that are done for celiac? My gp took blood last week and when I phoned for results I was told that my iron levels were low so I have been given iron tablets.. and they have asked me to come in to get bloods done again to double check, not sure what that means?

Low iron levels often accompany undiagnosed coeliac disease, so they're not ruling it out, just that the blood test has shown this up first. In my experience (three coeliac DDs), the testing for coeliac takes longer to come back than for other conditions they might test for at the same time, so it could be that this is what they're waiting for. Alternatively, the test was inconclusive so they're asking to do a repeat test.

Either way, if the blood test is positive, then you will need to have an endoscopy, so don't stop eating gluten till after that! Good luck.

Thank you tkband3 Smile The receptionist initially told me all my tests weren't back yet they were still waiting on celiac and allergy but when I spoke to the doctor she made it sound like all tests were back but I needed to go and do bloods again, which I found strange as I have never been asked to do more bloods. I am back in on Tuesday for them so hopefully the nurse can tell me why.

I think it took about 6 weeks for me to get the results back for my Celiac Test-then if pos I think you need a Endoscopy to confirm it?!-Not sure.
