Hurt my leg. What have I done?

Can any one help please. I got a shooting pain in the outside of my ankle while running on Monday. It's not my ankle joint but just above it.Very sort to the touch. It feels as if I've been kicked there except that haven't and there is not bruise and only a little swelling. Yes I know I should probably see a GP but I don't have much faith in their ability to sort out aches and pains - sympathy and painkillers usually. What have I done? Any ideas. ATM I'm just hoping it will go away with some rest and support.

So fed up and miserable about it as I was just starting to build up my distances and speeds

Have you tried ice and elevating your foot to calm the swelling down, sorry can't help much!
Hope it gets better quickly

I did similar running some time ago. It was ligament damage, so afraid as already said rest and ice. I bought a support too which helped when went back to running

OrmIrian · 10/04/2007 16:28

Aha! How long before you went back to it blondehelen? I'd just passed the 4 miles mark and was sooo excited about it......

Thanks for the sympathy Ivor - but that's the weird thing - there is virutally no swelling and no bruising just PAIN!!!

How about the ice in a gin and tonic? Would that help????

I was training for great south run and it was only about 6 weeks before that I did it so only rested for about a week and a half but went back with a support and it was fine.

Ivor · 10/04/2007 16:33

How odd that's how I take my ice!!!

OrmIrian · 10/04/2007 16:43

. I find it best Ivor.

That's good news bh. I guess I'll have to play it by ear then. I missed my karate lesson last night as I could barely walk on it but maybe next week. I think that last week's class started the trouble - there were no mats and after training in bare feet I has slightly sore feet but chose to take no notice of it....

it's not shin splints is it?

OrmIrian · 10/04/2007 16:46

I don't think so zippi. I've had them before and they are on the front of the leg - this is on the side only.

Actually what with the shin splints, lower back, upper back, knee problems and the current ankle thing....perhaps I'd better take up knitting....
