Heavy periods - coil?

Sorry, not sure if this is the right place to post....I have very heavy periods. Scan confirmed not near to menopause despite being early 40's now and no real cause for such heavy flow.

The coil has been suggested as one method of reducing blood loss. However I am worried it could make things heavier, longer or cause weight gain (already on meds that have that as a side effect).

Don't need contraception and have never used anything hormonal as I am worried about increased risk of cancer, due to family history.

Anyone had any luck with the coil? I am wondering if it is worth it for the 2/3 days where I am rushing back and forth to the toilet and scared to go anywhere I may not have free toilet access.

Thanks
