Poss allergic reaction to suntan cream

I bought a new suntan cream at the weekend for ds and applied it yesterday to his arms and face (the rest of him was covered by clothing). This morning his face is red and warm and covered with tiny tiny blistery looking bumps. However his arms are fine. He wore a hat the whole time we were out and wasn't in the sun all that long.

Could this be an allergic reaction to the cream (or something else), or could it be on of the "spotty" diseases? He has no other symptoms and it does seem to be bothering him (itchy etc).

is he allergic to wheat or have coeliacs as they put wheat germ oil in it

No known allergies (he is 2). Would say no to wheat allergyas he is fine with bread. Would it be terrible of me to do a spot test on him with the cream? His face doesn't seem to be bothering him.

Sun creams are a really common cause of skin reactions - try looking for one which says "PABA free" on the label, as this is typically the ingredient which causes the reaction and it's in most suncreams, even the ones which claim to be hypo-allegenic.

Ds has reactions to suncream too - he comes out in a red 'burnt' rash....also avoid any that have perfume in as that can also be the cause of reaction.....try the simple range.

I've been through practically all the commerical sun creams with ds, and he has reacted to all of them.

The summer before last, we were in France and I bought some factor "50+" made by a company called Mustela. It's the only one I use now. I have never seen it for sale over here but a relative goes to France regularly and she gets me some when I run out.

i noticed the same with ds last summer, the rash came and went and i noticed it went on the days he was in nursery and using their suncream - i asked them and used the same kind - boots sensitive, and have had no problems since. Hope his rash fades soon.
