Corneal Ulcer

After a painful few days with no relief from drops from the gp the optician sent me to a and e today who diagnosed this. Its bloody agony, as well as not really being able to see.

Anyone else on here had one? Did it take long to heal? Was there any permanent damage?

I had one and it was agony. I had to stay in a darkened room and the pain was awful.

I had two lots of drops (antibiotic and steroid) and used then every 30 mins for several days, then hourly for several days. Then 2 hourly etc. Overall, I was putting drops in for around 3-4 weeks.

My ulcer was in the outer edge of my cornea. I was fortunate to have no lasting danage.

My partner had this earlier in the year. He got cream from the eye hospital - which was an anti-viral, I think - plus artificial tears. It started to clear within a few days, but it was a couple of weeks before he was 100%. No permanent damage, but he did have dry eyes for a wee bit longer after it healed, although no worse than mine as a contact lens wearer. He had actually made things worse by using Brolene drops before it was diagnosed, which the pharmacist suggested, so yours may clear faster. Try not to rub your eyes, and feel better soon.

I’ve had them 3 times now - was close to being admitted to hospital the first time as it was so severe. Like Dot I had several kinds of drops that had to be taken half hourly / hourly / 2 hourly etc. No lasting damage but it was a good few weeks before I was back to ‘normal’. It is second to labour for me in terms of pain, and I literally just sat in a dark room and tried to sleep as much as possible for the first few days.

Thanks for responding, sorry that others have been through it too though so relieved to hear that it doesn't always cause permanent damage as the specialist really scared me! The pain is intense so after this no more phone or lights. I've taken cocodamol but obviously not helped the soreness.

In the past two weeks I've had agonising tooth pain that resulted in an emergency root canal, a hospital admission for suspected gall bladder flare up and now this. Wondering when the universe will back off for a bit!
