Worried about ds's foot, should I take him to A & E tomorrow ?

Ds has had what we thought was a verruca and was complaining big time yesterday.
So I bought him some verruca stuff and put it on.
He woke up screaming last night and the spot where it had been was all puffed up and full of yellow fluid and blood
I had to get a pin and drain and it and coudl see it was actually a piece of wood (tiny) and got the tweezers to get it out.
I feel so bad as obv the verruca stuff made it worse and I thought I was helping him.
Tonight it has all healed over and it was full of the fluid again. Sorry for tmi but I drained it again and the smell was putrid, I have never smelt anything like it.
Should I just carry on cleaning it, draining and then putting a plaster on?
Trust it to be bank holiday weekend

Thanks pp. I will keep a very close eye.
Can I take him to A & E over weekend if gp not open?

If there is a bad smell, I would be concerned that there may be infection. If possible, I would try and get it seen to sooner rather than later.

That's what I was thinking vvqv. I willjudge first thing tomorrow morning.
Can I go to A & E (although no alternative)

Definitely got to A&E tomorrow if there still is a bad smell in the discharge.

oh goodness this happened to me. i thought a had a verucca, put the stuff on, and it all blistered up. i popped it and was wood inside, how i dont know. removed it (luike you have) and got loads of gunge out. There was a hole in my foot, small, but there. i bandaged it, and the wound got smaller and did heal but it took a while. i should've really gone to the docs but i was a stubborn teenager and dealt with it myself. i;d take him to the docs/a+e/walk in clinic tomorrow.

Thanks everyone, the last thing I want to happen is it gets worse.

how is he today?

Frascati · 08/04/2007 20:51

pp ~ thanks for asking

Well I have just had to pierce it again and pus came out. The smell is horrendous. It was like a big lump on the heel of his foot

As it is on his heel and is hurting when he walks I think I need to phone the emergency doctor tomorrow. Not sure what they can do but worth a try?

as vvq said may indicate infected and worthwhile bringing him to local nhs walk in centre or a+e tomorrow unless is unwell inself.

friendlyedjit · 09/04/2007 00:11

my computer skills rubbish so... should have read

unless unwell in self and then bring sooner

MrsGumby · 09/04/2007 00:20

I'd take him to your local walk-in centre or out-of-hours GP centre as opposed to A&E - he wouldn't be deemed an urgent patient in A&E and you could be waiting for hours. NHS direct's website should have details of local centres for you. Hope you sort it out.
