red spots on my leg

I woke up this morning with a rash on my leg. Red itchy spots. I went to the doctor who said they definitely look like bites. Thing is last night after a shower, I noticed maybe a few spots maybe about three or four on my leg. When I woke this morning there was much more on my leg and they were more pronounced too. So I don't know if it's insect bites are the cause. There's no spots on upper part of body. Just on one leg. No where else on my body.

Any idea as to what this could be?

Shingles?

milkjetmum · 28/09/2017 20:52

Molluscum? Do you go swimming often?

MissConductUS · 28/09/2017 20:54

Bedbugs? Do you have those in Blighty?

SMJYellow · 28/09/2017 20:55

When I woke to a rash, Shingles was the first thing that entered into my head. I had chicken pox as a kid. Never had shingles before. This is why I went to the doctor. Just to see if it's shingles because I would like to know and stay away from vulnerable people who never had chicken pox before.

The doctor never mentioned shingles though.

I don't go swimming. I was away the weekend before last and I went into a jacuzzi though.

God, I hope it's not bed bugs.

Hives?

Molluscum doesn't pop up quickly like that. Shingles normally follow the line of a nerve and is localised in one area. Shingles is ok as long as the rash can be covered as it would spread chicken pox by direct contact with fluid from the blisters

Hot tub folliculitis?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds a lot like bedbug bites. You'll find lots of pictures of the bites on line - see how closely they resemble what you have.

Try an over the counter hydrocortisone cream. That will help the itching. An antihistamine like benadryl can also be helpful. If they don't resolve in a week or so consider consulting a dermatologist. They can take a skin scrape and send it off to the lab.

I'm a healthcare professional, but also a Yank, so I'm sorry if hydrocortisone or benadryl is called something else in the UK and I don't know the process to consult a specialist.

Go, I hope it's not bedbugs.

I reckon it's definitely bites.

My mam woke up with a few of the same spots around her ankles this morning. She reckons spider bites.

My left leg is covered in spots. I counted 18 spots. They are small pimple like spots. And only on one leg. No spots on my upper body at all.

We live with pets - a dog and a cat. They are inside pets. It could be fleas or mites too.

I hope to god not bed bugs.
