Have really bad stomach cramps and diarrhea. The pain from the cramps is awful, is there anything I can take to ease them?

Buscopan?

Embekkisson1 · 28/09/2017 19:37

Co-codomol,soluable, it will sort you out within 30 mins and make you feel happy and sleepy .

Buscopan and chamomile tea, and a hot water bottle (try lying on your front on top of it)

MollyHuaCha · 28/09/2017 19:46

Poor you. Warm peppermint tea and ginger tea are both good too. Hope you feel better soon.

Sienna333 · 28/09/2017 19:57

Tried peppermint tea and immodium and it has made it worse :(
Thanks for the tips

Paracetamol?

Sienna333 · 30/09/2017 23:00

Tried paracetamol but didn't do anything. Immodium and a medicine I used to help treat nausea and upset stomachs had the opposite effect on me. I was on the toilet 15 minutes after taking it. Am seriously fed up and spending all my time folded up in bed because as soon as I stand, the cramps and nausea come back :(

If it's a bug you shouldn't take Imodium, it's better out than in.

Sienna333 · 30/09/2017 23:24

People keep telling me it is incredibly rare to still have diarrhea whilst taking Immodium. Feel like a weird freak of nature

Has this happened all of a sudden? Do you often have diarrhoea and cramps? Do you pass blood or mucous (this might indicate inflammation in the bowels)? If it is a bug, it needs to get out and you should not take Imodium. You might have actually made it worse by keeping it in, your body is trying to get rid of it but the Imodium is preventing it?

Not that you might have it, but as you have not said if this is a regular thing or something that just has happened this week, I might mention it in case others are reading the thread with similar symptoms. If it is an inflammatory disease, such as Ulcerative Colitis or Chron's, the Imodium can actually make it worse. The symptoms probably would not be just the loose stools, you might have cramps to the right of the belly button, or your back passage would feel like on fire, you would have sudden urgency to go to the bathroom, maybe even going as much as 20+ times in a day, you might pass blood or mucous, when formed your stools might have black streaks, your tummy might be bloated as if you were 3 months pregnant, your joints might hurt as if you had arthritis, etc.

Don't take Ibuprofen and stay with the Paracetamol, as Ibuprofen can hurt the lining of the stomach and aggravate the pain. I also suggest a hot water bottle, camomile or peppermint tea, and a visit to the GP on Monday if you continue to experience pain and diarrhoea. I hope you get better soon, it is really not nice x

Agree you should see GP. It might be a good idea to get something gentle and soothing like enterosgel in the meantime.

Thanks all. Was in agony again last night with the stomach cramps and had 2 bouts of explosive diarrhoea after trying to drink water. Fed up does not cover it. :(
