My new girlfriend has just told me she has cold sores.. and asked if I had any in past ( I haven't... I'm 45. My elder bro has.. my 3 nephews have n sister to.. nephews are young and more forward with their loving kisses, which makes me worry at time,) I do sometimes get a tingling in lips shortly after a visit when they have theirs)
So my new girlfriend.. I say gf.. only 3rd date.. should I worry!! Break it off??

You won't die of a cold sore! Most people have the virus but the sores come out when they are run down or lacking sleep etc.

Mrsjohnmurphy · 27/09/2017 17:16

It's a cold sore not hepatitis, just don't kiss when they have a sore or prodromal symptoms. I think quite a high proportion of people have the virus in their systems.

Dalphidol · 27/09/2017 17:22

Seriously break up over that? Lots of people carry the virus.

You can only contract it when they have it themselves so no kissing

I get coldsores the odd time on my lip but have never given it to family, dc or partners as I'm uber paranoid when I have them so no kissing, don't touch the coldsores, wash my hands often, don't share toothbrushes/flannels/cups etc when they are there

Dalphidol · 27/09/2017 17:23

Well I don't share toothbrushes anyway but you know what I mean Grin

XJerseyGirlX · 27/09/2017 17:27

I have cold sores when I'm
run down or stressed. Was with ex dp for 7 years and never passed them on . I wouldn't give it another thought op

Thingsiseeinmybathroom · 27/09/2017 17:31

I get cold sores when run down mostly. I have been with dp for 9 years and haven't passed it. No kissing or oral from tingle to fully healed and all is well.

Have you ladies tried i-lysine tablets? If I take them it reduces the extremity of the sore.

picklemepopcorn · 27/09/2017 17:32

You probably carry it too. Is she suggesting you gave it to her, or trying to avoid giving it to you?

No kissing or oral sex while there are cold Sores!

Jam4trousers · 27/09/2017 17:39

I get cold sores. Sometimes really severely.

My husband has never caught them after 15yrs together and my children have never caught them either.

Dalphidol · 27/09/2017 17:59

I haven't things, keep meaning to. I do increase lysine rich foods when I have a breakout.

It's really a non issue jam, long as she's careful. I was with exdh for 10 years and he never caught them umm anywhere as I avoided any lip contact umm anywhere Grin as soon as I felt the slightest tingle until they were healed and away. Last thing I'd want to do is give the annoying buggers to anyone else.

PickAChew · 27/09/2017 18:06

I've managed to avoid giving it to dh in the 15 years we've been together and I get some right stinkers.

Jam4trousers · 27/09/2017 18:57

Thanks all, true pickledme, varying
Stats do say a vast % of population have virus but asymptotic.
No she's not accusing, maybe when she asked if I got them she was hoping it did? So she would be more relaxed?? About it?? so there'd be no issue of who gave what etc..
