Postnatal symptoms

Wondering if I could pick your brains about some postnatal symptoms I am having. I have done the dreaded dr google search, but haven't come back with much information.

I had a baby 2 weeks ago, and I have been experiencing the following:

  • mild headaches
  • eyes sensitive to light
  • eyes sore
  • foggy feeling
  • light headed / dizzy
  • hot flushes
  • difficulty catching my breath
  • feeling nauseous

I had high blood pressure after the birth of my baby, but it stabilised a few hours later. Blood pressure hasn't been checked since. When I experience these symptoms I tend to panic, and have panic attacks (which I know of course doesn't help and makes it worse). I also have a toddler, so I have been avoiding leaving the house of fear of fainting etc and my children being left vulnerable. I have drove once since I had my baby, and it felt very unsafe. My spacial awareness has disappeared, and I kept having panic attacks and had to keep pulling over to compose myself. I live rural, so I'm stuck indoors unless I use the car, therefore we've been house bound.

I am of course going to see my GP, but I am waiting for an appointment to become available (the appointment system isn't wonderful, and you cannot book far in advance). I will bring up the possibly of postnatal anxiety / depression. I don't feel I am depressed, but I know I shouldn't dismiss that it's possible. Also will be booking an eye test, as I do wear glasses but they're only needed for driving etc.

Just to add I'm hypothyroid (so will need a blood test to check that my levels are ok), and I have been taking iron tablets incase I am anaemic. I am eating plenty, and drinking lots of water, so I don't think it's lack of nutrients or dehydration.

Anyone have any thought as to what it could possibly be? Or why I'm experiencing this? I really just need to start feeling better, as I feel my life is on hold and consumed by my symptoms.

Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for replying!

I think you need to go to out of hours and get your BP checked.

Maybe call 111 and see what they advise? If you're only 2 weeks post partum I'd err on the side of caution

They sound just like my symptoms of post partum pre eclampsia that developed after delivery. I was re-admitted five days after delivery as my bp went dangerously high, I have only just stopped medication 9 weeks later. Do get yourself checked asap by out of hours gp or call the postnatal ward you were on, mine were happy to deal with patients 6weeks post delivery. Don't take any chances op.

How are you feeling op? Hope all ok

Yes to getting checked but a lot of these could very easily be attributed to exhaustion!

That doesn't sound right. I think you need to get checked over b
