Ds was kissed yesterday by a child who has developed Chickenpox today. We are going on holiday in 2 weeks time. Does anyone know ho long the sympoms can take to appear if he has contracted CP? Thanks

If you have had chickenpox then your ds is quite unlikely to get it as he should still have passive immunity. DS1 had chickenpox when ds2 was 7 months and he didn't get it (paed said immunity starts to wane between 6 months and a year).

Incubation period is 2-3 weeks IIRC.

my youngest was exposed to cp in the nursey (about 16 children got it in the end!) and never got it - even though she was about a year old and I'm still breastfeeding her

Hi Grommit

I had a similar situation a few months ago. Apparently babies can get it. Mine didn't. Immunity seems to vary from child to child. Look at my thread under health - babies & chickenpox. Hope your ds doesn't get it.

Hi Grommit - hope your DS doesn't catch it

My DD had it at 5 mths & DS when he was 1yr - in both cases it was v mild (DS had, literally, 1 spot!), which I understand is usual when they get it so young. Depending on the type on holiday you are going on perhaps a mild dose won't spoil things too much? (neither of mine were "ill" )

The bad news is that (I am told) a mild dose means that they are likely to catch it again - however, neither of mine, despite regular contact with it, have had again - they are 9 & 6 now.

My ds MIGHT have got it at 5 months: we're not sure, as he only got one, maybe two spots. Even if he did, he's probably not miinue as he's only just strated being weaned, so he was still pretty much fully b/f, so he woud have fought it with "my" immunity (we think).

Even so, he (now 3.10) has gone through 2 further "epidemics" at the child minders, without getting it, so you might be lucky.

Thanks for all your replies. Well he was grumpy all last weekend and on Thursday has 1 spot on his cheek - nowhere else. Difficult to know - the spot was like a zit - white spot in the middle but did not seem to be itchy
